This product works great, much better than a different company's 18 volt rotary hammer, although it lacks a chipping or hammer only function. However to be fair SDS+ isn't meant for heavy chipping applications, if you need to do alot of chipping get a spline drive or SDS MAX, they work so much faster. I cannot accurately say exactly how many holes I get per charge because I drill various hole sizes (3/16"-3/4"). Sometimes I will use thin-walled core bits, but for the large sizes I usually bring out the corded hammerdrill, this one will drill the hole but it is hard on it. overall a great drill.

I bought this item because I have almost every Dewalt 18 volt tool there is. This completed the 18 volt system. I used it just the other day and it

worked like a champ. If you are drilling several holes, I would recommend the Bosch extreme corded hammerdrill.



All in all, the tool is a bit pricy but what isn't now days.

I have been using a corded sds hammer drill for a number of years and have grown tired of lugging an extension cord around jobsites. When I'm working from a 12-foot ladder the extension cord adds significant weight to the drill. Sure; a corded drill hits harder and drills slightly faster, but the disadvantages, at least in my opinion, outweigh the advantages, thus making a battery hammer-drill a viable choice. And in my case the 18 volt model was the logical choice ... I already use a DeWalt 18-volt drill/driver and have plenty of batteries (as well as a 15-minute charger). I can charge five batteries in the evening, carry them with me to work and not have to worry about running out of power all day long. I seldom drill anything larger than 1/4", so I get a lot of holes out of a single charged battery. This is one of the lightest sds battery drills available, too.



If you are lucky enough to do all your drilling in a single location, or if you anticipate doing a lot of chipping or drilling large holes, then go for a corded drill: you'll be glad you did. If your job requires you to move around a lot and/or climb ladders, you will soon appreciate this drill.

This compact SDS Drill offers great power with a lightweight compact body. The 18v power pack gives you enough power to use on most jobs. I went with the 18v over the 24v because i was concerned that the 24v would be too bulky and or heavy to use one handed or leaning to a hard to reach space. Coupled with a rapid 15min charger, you will never run out or power.

I bought this tool mainly for drilling into rock up in the mountains to place anchor bolts for climbing. Let me tell you, this thing blasts through rock as well as concrete. It is actually as fast or faster than my corded rotary hammer I use. This thing is a fun little toy as well (I find myself going around and finding stuff to drill)



Bottom line: if you need to get some heavy duty drilling done, this is a great tool to have by your side

I drill alot of concrete around pools installing automatic pool covers. I can tell you this drill has plenty of power. In fact I don't use it when drilling smaller 1/4 holes as the 36 volt hammer drill is plenty for that. It really shines drilling 1/2" holes in pool decks. Fast and light. I love the 36 volt batteries. They hold there charge for weeks. I was using dewalt 18volt drills which were fine but the batteries would drain so fast and would be dead if I did not keep the charged until I needed them. I just wish they would make a right angle 36 volt drill and a portable fan to keep me cool!

I bought this too cut out dry wall and I was

about to tile the floor in one of my bedrooms. This tool with the correct blade did not cut any of the tile, as for the

18 volt battery..... it's way too top heavy.

A 12 or a 14 volt would have been a better choice. Save your money don't buy it!!!!!!

This little cut-out tool has proven fairly convenient for close-quarters applications (where a sawzall may not be practical). Although a variable speed control would be nice, I remain a satisfied Dewalt consumer and anticipate future purchases from Toolsbynet.

The first one that I ordered came in fast .but it did not work so I shipped it back,and they said that that company was out of stock,so I ordered one from different company on amazon cheaper that the one I ordered earlier,it came in but took longer.opened it up to set it up and the level bubble was cracked in it and no fluid in it so it cannot be leveled up to use it,I wasn't going to send back for a second time so I took it apart and replaced the piece and fixed it myself,works good now

I used this level when landscaping, often building patios and retaining walls. We had two accessories for this level - a tripod and a sliding bar for the detector. I agree with some of the other reviews on here that the bubble level in the unit is a bit cumbersome to read, and since the entire system relies on this bubble for the level measurement, your accuracy is only as good as the bubble. Since this is the same principle as a bubble level, you're kind of limited to the accuracy of your old tool. However, the advantage with this unit is that you don't have to keep projecting your 4 or 8 foot level out and wrestle with a tape measure at the same time, so it saves time in that regard.



That being said, for our purposes we were satisfied with this unit because we could lay out an area and check for low and high spots fairly quickly. We weren't building foundations, however, and I'm not sure if I would trust it in that application. But it saved us a lot of time after we had roughed in, as we could set it up at one corner and walk around with the pole, looking for places to touch up. When building a patio in a corner of a house where it needs to pitch away from the house in both directions, this was much more handy than a stringline as we could project across the whole space rather than the edges.



I'm not landscaping for a living anymore, but recently I built a retaining wall for my house using a just a 4 foot level, tape measure, and some wooden stakes and stringlines. After it was finished I saw that one of my walls was more level than the other, which irritates me to no end. Laying a level on the wall says it's "level", but it has a very tiny pitch... about 1" over 20 feet that my 4-ft level can't resolve. If I walk across the street and eyeball it, it is detectable. I am now resolved to find a laser level, so I revisted this one.



Since I am now getting ready for a deck project, I'm searching for the right level, but I remember tinkering with this goofy bubble level when I used this tool in the past, and I'm not sure if I want to do that for this thing. Also, since that tripod and sliding detector tool were so handy, I really don't see how this unit would be useful without them. So, my recommendation is that this is fine for patios, but when you need precision, I think this needs some revision. I built a garage a couple of years ago, and the contractor that poured my concrete had a laser level. That garage is square over 24" within 1/16th of an inch, and I can detect no variations in level across it. I want to find out what he used... but I know it wasn't this Dewalt.

I bought this tool refurbished, as I was doing a lot of construction in my basement and needed level lines. This tool admirably served its purpose. It worked with my existing DeWalt 18v items as well.



I have more complaints than accolades for the device though, not all of which I had at the beginning.



Pros:

* Works with other DeWalt 18v (or down to 9.6v) batteries

* Versatile base allows for flexible mounting

* 360 degree laser allows you to do all walls at the same time

* very visible indoors



Cons:

* Heavy - You can not use a standard camera tripod as a base as it will flex and bow

* Fidgety - any touch to the unit or base requires that you recheck for level

* Only for use outside in overcast or evening conditions

* Big - This unit is just big, massive, you will never loose it at a job site as it is too big to miss on a cleanup.



With the rapid change and proliferation of self leveling lasers out there I would not make this purchase again. I am leaning towards purchasing a new self leveling laser for my next project that will require a laser level.

This laser level performs as advertised. It was very easy to set up and use in both the horizontal and vertical modes. The lasers seem bright, but were very hard to see outdoors, and impossible in bright sunlight. I will be keeping the product for use indoors only.
