"Inexpensive fix for broken CMM1200 switch lever" 2010-08-28

Many owners have complained about the cheap plastic pin assemblage in the switch lever housing. Mine broke mid-mow after 2+ seasons of use.
The converter kit sold by the factory repair store is $85. The actual repair would have cost who knows what out of warranty, plus tranporting the mower to the factory repair shop 35 miles away was a monumental task.
I beat the system of "planned obsolescence" by drilling out the original plastic pin halves and replacing the pin with a metal 3/16 by 1 1/2 inch Tension Pin purchased at True Value around the corner for .25 (that's .25 cents), PLUS TAX.
Works great!
Off to mow now...vrrrrrrmmmm...

Okay, WHEN it works, it cuts nicely and will actually do about half the lawn. Then you need to plug it in and wait another day to do the other half. But it has been a lemon from the get go! The starter broke two days after the first month (and you get a 30 day guarantee) then the charger deteriorated at the base of the charge box within the next 4 months. No charging now!!! It would have been cheaper to purchase gas for the gas mower!!! It's WORTHLESS!!!!!!!!! We now have a lovely dead lawn ornament awaiting pickup from recycle! Not to mention is cost us $400!

I bought this baby from Amazon last september 09 and have had nearly one year of use with limited use (long winter and burnt grass this summer). 1)The cut is not clean at all and need to pass over sometimes twice 2) the charger died on me today 3) heavy and replacement battery looks like a future shocker... All in all, not "excited" about this mower...

I have a VERY big yard and I needed a trim mower to do the small spots and steep hills. This mower is great, VERY QUIET. I need hearing protection for the big rider but none for the CMM1200. I get about 45 minutes of run time out of one charge. This mower uses industry standard 12 V batteries so they will only be about $75 to replace in 3-4 years rather than the $150 for custom batteries on other models/brands. The munching deck NEVER clogs up even though I mow tall grass with it. My old gas push mower always clogged up. This is a great mower for small yards or as a trim mower.

I have owned quite a few mowers over the years, both riders and walk-behind, and this one does the best job. Nice, even cut. Best mulcher I've seen -- even with fairly high grass, the clippings just disappear. No need to bag. Much quieter than a gas mower (though far from silent) and no maintenance except blade-sharpening. And, of course, no need to buy and store gasoline. The "but" is: My lawn is about one-third acre and this mower is claimed to be able to cut that size lawn on a single battery charge. It doesn't happen that way for me. I have to divide my lawn mowing into two days (it takes about 10 hours to fully charge the battery). Actually, in my case that's not an issue -- I don't mind mowing half the yard one day and the remainder the next. But if you're anxious to finish the job in a single day, you might be disappointed.
Overall, I really like this mower. One reason I decided to buy it was a 90-day period during which you can return the mower and get your money back. No way I'm returning this one.
